Studies associated with both mindfulness-meditation and trauma-recovery suggest a need to equip sufferers of traumatic stress with meditation skills. Unfortunately, those who may stand to gain the most from mindfulness may be among the least likely to tolerate the practice of mindfulness-meditation. The symptoms of trauma can make it difficult for some people to meditate as they struggle with a dysregulated nervous system. This can be due to any number of intrusive thoughts, emotions, sensations, images and so on. In fact, under certain circumstances, mediation could be harmful. Enter Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness, or TSM.
TSM is an essential “toolkit” of knowledge, gauges, and adaptations helping to make meditation accessible to people who might not otherwise be able to meditate long or often enough to enjoy the full benefits. It empowers people to make their own choices about their practice at any given moment, utilizing tangible skills to either be with, work with, or come back to the meditation when they are ready.
As a certified practitioner of TSM, I invite you to reach out for more information via the Request a Call button or Contact page, or visit the Resources page here at oregonmeditation.com. We look forward to hearing from you!
