What are the benefits of meditation?
In the short term, meditation can help people decompress, meaning it reduces stress and acts as a reset for our mental processes. In the longer term, neuroscientists report that, at a minimum, a steady meditation practice fundamentally increases awareness, decreases stress and emotional reactivity, and increases empathy and compassion for ourselves and others. Meditators typically report that they are more clear-minded, have increased insight, and feel more emotionally stable. With all this in mind, a steady meditation practice can loosen the underpinnings of anxiety, PTSD, and depression; and there are related improvements to physical health (e.g. reduces inflammation). Please see the Resources page for more information.
Why would I want a meditation trainer?
Much like a physical fitness trainer, working with a mediation trainer can help you to develop a personalized practice and stay motivated with ongoing support. These sessions should also expand your knowledge around meditation and related topics. All of the above increases the likelihood of forming a transformational meditation habit.
What's the difference between mindfulness and meditation?
These terms are often used interchangeably, or together like “mindfulness-meditation”, both of which are appropriate. You might think of meditation as practicing mindfulness (non-judgmental, present-moment awareness).
What is Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness?
TSM is an essential “toolkit” of knowledge, gauges, and adaptations for those whose meditation practice is threatened by recurring thoughts, feelings, sensations, images, etc. associated with trauma. With TSM, meditators are empowered to either be with, work with, or come back to the practice when they are ready. Please reach out for more information. We are here to help, and look forward to hearing from you!
How often should I meditate, and for how long?
OM recommends 20+ minutes a day, 5+ days a week at a minimum. However, it may take some time to work up to this, and any amount of time spent in practice is better than no time at all.
How long should it be before I see any progress?
This is unique to each individual, but many people report noticing one or more benefits (see #1 above) within a month, and in some cases just a few days. It should be noted that continuing with a routine practice is necessary to see further substantial benefits over time.
I noticed you train company groups at a lesser cost per person; can my friends and I form a group for a cheaper rate too??
Absolutely we will apply a group rate! You can book a (pre-agreed upon) community space or the group training can be delivered over the Zoom platform!
